Candidates to Speak on Real Estate Issues
Every March, Connecticut REALTORS® are invited to ![]()
REALTORS® Day at the Capitol, where they learn about current issues being considered by the state legislature. Afterwards they break into groups, by district, and meet with their local representatives. Occasionally, you will hear someone remark that if they knew how their elected official stood on a given issue, they may not have voted for him or her.
This year REALTORS® can find out where candidates stand on real estate related issues, before they cast their ballot.
Tomorrow evening, Wednesday, September 15, 2010, REALTORS® from lower Fairfield County, CT will have an opportunity to hear local state candidates share their positions on issues affecting the real estate community, currently being discussed in the State Legislature. Among the topics to be addressed are:
- Taxes being proposed to reduce CT State revenue gaps, including sales tax on professional services such as appraisals, brokerage fees and legal services, buyers' conveyance tax and mortgage tax.
- Increased regulations on land use, such as the proposed 100 foot setback from wetlands.
- Exemptions from real estate licensing for some people who work for others in the real estate business, such as time share sponsors and property managers
The REALTOR® Candidate Forum will be held at the Italian Center, in Stamford, CT. It is being sponsored by the REALTOR® Boards of Region 1 of the Connecticut Association of REALTORS®, comprising Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Stamford, Westport, Weston and Wilton.
